2. Abanindranath's House of Stories

undefined

Written by Likla All and illustrated by Eva Sanchez Gomez, Abanindranath's House of Stories is about a revolutionary Indian painter who created the Indian Society of Oriental Art and was also the first major exponent of Swadeshi values in Indian art. He also founded the influential Bengal School of Art, which led to the development of modern Indian painting.

The first part of the book is an immersive, interactive story narrated through picture book format. It tells the story of young Abanindranath and how he is terrified of his house, Jorasanko, with its huge imposing presence and its creaking floorboards. He uses his imagination and transforms the shadows not characters. The book then segues into projects and activities for kids.

From the people who brought us Indian Spy Art and Raza's Bindu, you must explore this beautiful book!

5. Parvati the Elephant's Very Important Day

undefined

Parvati the elephant has an important role to play in the temple, and she’s very excited about doing it. But sometimes, unexpected things can get in the way of a crucial task.

Will Parvati be able to complete the job that she has set out to do?

Parvati the Elephant’s Very Important Day shares a universal story about duty, responsibility, and success. Structured as a rhyming picture book, Parvati showcases Kerala temple traditions by narrating a day in the life of a temple elephant.

Elephants, despite their magnificent girth and size, are gentle, and highly intelligent animals who balance the ecosystem. These pachyderms have been preyed on for years and are in danger of extinction.

We hope this story will remind children and adult readers of the beauty and majesty of elephants and their value to our world.

An enchanting picture book that playfully explains Buddha’s message of interdependent origins of all life to help raise cooperative and compassionate global citizens. What the Buddha saw in a peepal leaf—cosmic harmony—has been retold lyrically by an imaginary character, Harmony—a leaf of the Bodhi tree.

8. Vadai Pochae

undefined

"வடை போச்சே"(Vadai Pochae) is a colorful, beautifully illustrated, humorous, interactive board book with push, pull, slide and wheel mechanisms. It aids in hand eye co-ordination (especially Pincer grasp), fine motor skills, cognitive skills and vocabulary improvement. Written by Ramya Sethuraman and published by Agan Adhigaram, the book is based on a famous story about the fox that outwits a crow. In the story, a crow is tempted to grab a paati's vadai and fly away. The hungry, cunning fox sees the crow with the vadai in its beak and decides to trick him. The fox says, 'podu thakitaa Dhaka  and entices the fox to dance. The book ends with a huge twist and of course, a quote from Thiruvaluvar and also an aphorism - don't cheat and be cheated.

We absolutely love the interactive elements of the book, the tabs and flags that we can turn and lift, perfect for little fingers and to build strength and dexterity.
