Are you looking for a gripping and a fascinating chapter book for your young reader? Then you have to check this book - Kittu's Very Mad Day by Harshikaa Udasi. The book is illustrated by Lavanya Naidu and published by Duckbill books.

This book was a winner of the Children's First writing competition, organized by Parag, an initiative of Tata Trusts, and Duckbill Books.

Children's First Writing Competition

Children's First Writing Competition, is a project/writing competition organized by Parag and Duckbill books. It's about books featuring children with disabilities.

I liked the initiative, and I completely agree that we need to bring awareness and a change in attitude. To accept differently abled children, it is important that the children read books which don't focus on their disability. But instead help children see their other characteristics.

Plot of Kittu's Very Mad Day

Coming back to the book, this book is all about Kittu and his fun times with Mad errr Madheswari. One fine day after touring the Panna National Park and the Pandava Falls, Kittu's chaotic family leave him behind at a dhaba on the highway in the middle of nowhere.

An Ice cream wala rescues him and takes him to his home. His daughter Mad is mad about skateboarding. Kittu also wants to zoom around the skateboard. But can a boy with one leg and using crutches learn to skateboard? Did Kittu try skateboarding? And did he meet his family again? To know that you got to grab the book.

Vaandu and I enjoyed reading the book. Harshikaa Udasi has done an excellent job in bringing out the mischievous and stubborn character of Kittu.

My favorite quote from the book is, [pullquote]"Look, Kittu, you have one leg less than the most them. They find it unusual, not you. For you, it's the most natural thing given to you. It must never matter what they say. What must matter is what you do about it".[/pullquote]

Great huh? I would love to see many more books like this. I am sure such books with surely help people to accept disability and create an inclusive world.
