Skill of the Month

SPATIAL ABILITY

Spatial ability is the ability to mentally picture and manipulate objects - rotating them, looking at them from different angles, observing how objects may fit together (like putting the triangles together to make the square!) and more. This is an important skill for future math learning and STEM achievement for young children. We explore this ability more with this month's quilt making activity.

Excuse Me, Is This India?

Written By Anushka Ravishankar and Illustrated by Anita Leutwiler

Anna's aunt has come back from India and she gives Anna a quilt with pictures of all the things she has seen in India. Anna cuddles into the quilt and then her story begins - From an airplane to cows and crows, a little girl to bandicoots, from autorickshaws to elephants in front of the temple, from shops to airports again, the story moves with a fluidity which makes you want to keep turning pages.

This is India Quilt

Inspired by the quilt made by Anna's aunt, we make our own quilt with motifs inspired by India and what Anna experiences in the book! It requires a special skill to put the quilt together - what do you think that is?
